Feb 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s nationwide inflation in January 2021 determined under the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) decreased to 3.7 percent from 4.6 percent recorded in December 2020 on a year-on-year basis, the Department of Census and Statistics reported Monday.
The NCPI for all items for the month of January 2021 increased to 142.1 from 141.2 in the previous month.
The month-on-month change was contributed by increases of index value of food items by 0.48 percent and non-food items by 0.14 percent respectively.
Year‐on‐Year inflation of food group has decreased from 7.5 percent in December 2020 to 5.9 percent in January 2021 while that of non-food group has decreased from 2.2 percent to 1.8 percent during the month.
Contributions to the inflation rate of January 2021 from food group and non-food group are 2.70 percent and 0.99 percent respectively.
The moving average inflation for the month of January 2021 is 5.8 percent. The corresponding rate for the month of December 2020 was 6.2 percent.
